When Leah Goleniowska from Melton Mowbray gave birth to her baby son Max 11 days ago, she chose to donate his umbilical cord.
The process is risk-free for the mother and the baby. It takes ten minutes to donate.
"From something that is classed as clinical waste anyway, it takes nothing to take a sample of blood from that which can be used. It's just nice to know that from having our son somebody else can actually benefit from that."
