Midlands War veterans recognised for Arctic service

Veterans who served on Arctic convoys and in Bomber Command during the Second World War have been recognised following a long running campaign.

A group of 40 veterans were among the first to be presented with their medals by the Prime Minister at a special ceremony in Downing Street.

Among the group were men from the midlands.

David Cameron said he was sorry it had taken 70 years for the country to thank the veterans.

3,000 sailors died delivering supplies to Soviet Ports. 55,000 airmen were killed.

Eric Carter is a War veteran from Kidderminster and Tim Elkington is a veteran from Cheltenham.
