West Mercia Police say a member of the public helped officers to rescue a six-year-old girl from a canal in Kidderminster who fell in with two other children.
The young girl who was named earlier as Imie Harrison died shortly after being taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital.
The two other children managed to escape the water and are expected to make a full recovery after being treated for hypothermia, but it is believed Imie was in the canal 'for sometime'.
Imie's twin brother was playing with the three children by the lock and ran to raise the alarm when the children fell in.
