An Austrian police officer has told ITV News Central that colleagues of the Nottingham teacher who fell to his death on a school trip tried to save him.
Mathias Ausserdorfer said the owner of the house near to where the teacher fell, as can be seen in the photograph, called the emergency services.
Despite the best efforts of medics 44-year-old Jonathan Taylor could not be saved.
A post-mortem examination is due to take place to determine the cause of death.
Pupils from Christ The King Voluntary Academy Roman Catholic school on the trip are due home in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
