Murder investigation after fire

A house fire that claimed the life of a Birmingham woman, and left her daughter with 40% burns, is being treated as arson.

Forensics investigations into yesterday’s blaze in Cateswell Road, Tyseley, have confirmed it was started deliberately.

Unclear how house fire in Birmingham started

A woman in her fifties has died and a 16-year-old girl remains critically ill in hospital after suffering serious burns in a house fire in Birmingham.

The fire started at the mid-terraced property on Cateswell Road, Tyseley, at around 5am this morning. Another woman in her twenties is also being treated for very serious burns.

Two other women, believed to be aged 27 and 29, are being treated injuries after they jumped from a first floor window to escape. A man in his fifties suffered superficial burns.

Birmingham East Police Chief Inspector Helen Kirkman, said: “A joint investigation is now underway between the police and experts from the Fire Investigation Team to establish how it started."
