Blast properties demolished

Up to six properties are being demolished and work is continuing to remove roof slates and bricks from the houses hit by a Newark blast, while forensic investigations take place. Some residents have returned home. Two bodies were found at the scene.

Newark gas explosion: police advise locals to stay indoors

Police assisting Nottinghamshire fire fighters with a gas explosion at a house in Newark, are advising local people to remain indoors and to ensure windows are closed.

The explosion happened around 5:15pm this evening at an address in Wright Street.

Fire fighters are continuing to rescue those inside the property. It is believed that three or four people may have sustained injuries.
