Solihull received donations 'in kind' for Olympic Torch costs

Solihull Council kept the costs of hosting the Olympic Torch low by receiving donations "in kind."

A Freedom of Information Request has revealed the council received £2,500 worth of street cleaning from a local contractor.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has defended spending a hundred and ninety thousand pounds hosting the Olympic Torch - the most in the Midlands. The council says it was justified because of the boost to the local economy.
