Motorway metal thieves caught on camera

Two men who pretended to be motorway maintenance workers to steal metal piping from a section of the M6 were caught on a police helicopter camera.

They can be seen getting out a white van near junction 8 and loading it up with steel pipes.

It happened at rush hour on January 15th.

The pair wore high visibility clothing and had an amber roof-top light on their van, in a bid to try and con the authorities and Highways Agency into thinking that they were legitimate workers.

However, CCTV operators became suspicious and called the police.

The men aged 59 and 19 from Wolverhampton admitted theft and were ordered to complete 140 hours of unpaid work and £430 in fines.
