Part of the northbound carriageway of the A1 remains closed after a crash involving a lorry and a van which left two people dead.
A fire broke out after the accident, filling both carriageways with smoke and damaging the road surface.
The two occupants of the van were pronounced dead at the scene, north of Long Bennington. Nottinghamshire Police say the 60-year-old lorry driver was shaken but not injured.
The southbound carriageway was reopened at midday after both sides were closed following the accident.
The northbound carriageway is expected to remain closed for the majority of the day.
Diversions are in place at the junctions with the A52 and A46, motorists are being asked to avoid the area where possible.
