East Midlands 'food poverty'

Around a quarter of people living in the East Midlands have skipped meals and gone without food to feed their family, according to new research

One fifth of parents 'struggling to feed children'

Charities and Tesco stores in the East Midlands are taking part in a national food collection which will encourage customers to donate foods for families who are struggling.

It comes as new research from the charities found that:

  • Nearly one in four people (24%) in the East Midlands have skipped meals, gone without food to feed their family or relied on family or friends for food in the last year
  • 21% of parents in the UK are struggling to feed their children
  • Of those, 70% who are suffering from food poverty with children in primary school education, rely in some part on food supplied by schools
