Charities and Tesco stores in the East Midlands are taking part in a national food collection which will encourage customers to donate foods for families who are struggling.
It comes as new research from the charities found that:
- Nearly one in four people (24%) in the East Midlands have skipped meals, gone without food to feed their family or relied on family or friends for food in the last year
- 21% of parents in the UK are struggling to feed their children
- Of those, 70% who are suffering from food poverty with children in primary school education, rely in some part on food supplied by schools
