Former Birmingham City striker Christian Benitez has died aged 27.
The Ecuador international, who spent a season on loan at St Andrew's in 2009/10, had been playing for El Jaish of the Qatar Stars League.
He joined the Middle Eastern club earlier this month from Mexican side Club America, after previous spells with El Nacional, Santos Laguna and Birmingham.
He was a regular for his country and made the Ecuador squad for the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany, scoring 24 goals in 58 appearances.
El Jaish have released a statement confirming Benitez's tragic passing, but did not confirm the cause of death.
