There will be no criminal charges brought against the New York taxi driver who ploughed into a fashion student from Leicester, leading to the loss of her leg, her lawyers have said.

Sian Green had to have the lower part of her left leg amputated by surgeons after the 24-year-old was hit by a cab as she took in the sights while holidaying with a female friend.

Her lawyer in New York, Daniel Marchese said in a statement that the city's assistant district attorney's office had informed him it would not be pressing charges against the man driving the cab, Faysal Himon.
