The first same-sex couple to book a wedding in Nottinghamshire are celebrating after finally being able to set the date.
Eleanor Plumstead, aged 23, and Ruth Harris, 31, live in Mansfield and will get married on August 9 at the town's registry office.
It comes after the government voted in proposals to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry for the first time. The new law comes into effect on March 29 next year.
Eleanor said they got engaged in August last year and waited until the law was passed so they could make it official.
I have been campaigning for years for gay marriage so I was straight on the phone to book our wedding when I heard the news.
We have waited for the law to change so we could get married as it is what we both preferred rather than a civil partnership ceremony.
