Police believe Paul White, aged 37, shot his partner Shani Cockerell, 33, before turning the gun on himself.
Two children - believed to have been the couple's - were in the house at the time of the shooting in the early hours of yesterday morning, but were not injured.
Mr White was declared dead at the scene while Ms Cockerell was seriously injured and was rushed to hospital.
She was today described as being in a serious but stable condition.
Neighbours have described the pair as having been together for a long time.
Police have confirmed they are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
