Police believe a Nottinghamshire man shot a woman at his home before turning the gun on himself, officers revealed today.
Detectives investigating the death of the 37-year-old man in Bircotes say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting.
Det Ch Insp Mel Bowden said they believe a 33-year-old woman, who lived with the man at the same address, was "the victim" in the incident.
She was found with shotgun injuries and was today in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
We are satisfied that the injured female was a victim in this incident.
Until a post mortem examination is carried out next week we will not be in a position to formally identify the deceased.
However, we believe he was the offender in this case and will not be looking for any further suspects.
Two children were also in the house at the time of the attack, which happened in the early hours of yesterday, but were not injured.
