Legacy of Beagle 2 discussed at National Space Centre

University academics will be discussing the legacy of the Beagle 2 landing spacecraft and the future of missions to Mars at the National Space Centre today.

Beagle 2 was due to land on Mars on 25 December 2003. It was successfully ejected from Mars Express on 19 December 2003. However, all contact with it was lost upon its separation six days before its scheduled entry into the atmosphere, and nothing has been heard from Beagle 2 since.
