Police have told ITV News Central that two Birmingham men arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences after travelling to Syria, did not pose an immediate threat.
It is understood that officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit were unarmed when they detained the pair, both aged 21, at Heathrow Airport this afternoon.
The men, who are from Handsworth, are being questioned on suspicion of preparation for preparation for acts of terrorism contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2005.
Officers believe the men travelled to Syria in May last year.
