The family of 34-year-old Gareth Lockyer, who died after kayaking in Wales, have thanked emergency services in a statement issued via Dyfed Powys Police.
Gareth was a keen kayaker, mountain biker and hill walker. He was a member of the cub scouts and then the scouts which is where he started canoeing.
Five years ago, he joined Leamington Spa Canoe Club because he wanted to meet new people. He would go away very regularly to kayak around the UK, often with his partner Emma, on various trips with the club, most often to North Wales and Dartmoor.
Gareth had never been in that section of the River Usk before but he was excited about coming to Wales.
We want to thank all of the emergency services involved in searching for him.
