Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke will undergo surgery on a ruptured Achilles' tendon which will rule him out for at least six months.
The Belgian striker suffered the injury in training and will miss the World Cup as well as the start of next season.
Manager Paul Lambert said: “It’s a terrible blow both for Christian and for the Club.
“He will miss the rest of the season, obviously, and also the World Cup. But he’ll work hard because that’s what he does and he’ll come back for us stronger than ever next season.”
Benteke scored 19 Premier League goals in 34 appearances last season for Villa but had struggled for form this season - at one point going 12 games without a goal.
