Police name man recovered from Harecastle Tunnel

Police have recovered a body in the search for a man in the Harecastle Tunnel in Staffordshire, after he was reported missing from a canal boat. He has been named as 58-year-old Michael Holgate from the Windermere area.

Police recover body in major canal tunnel search

Police searching for a man who fell from a canal boat in a tunnel more than a mile long in Staffordshire have found a body.

The man went missing from a narrowboat after falling overboard while travelling through the Harecastle Tunnel in Kidsgrove yesterday lunchtime.

The tunnel was closed by crews from the Staffordshire Fire & Rescue service and a major search began.

However police have confirmed this morning that a body has been recovered from the water. Formal identification is expected to take place tomorrow, and specially trained officers are supporting the man's family.
