A baby girl has been born at Birmingham Crown Court after a heavily-pregnant woman went into labour in the witness room.

It soon became clear it was too late to get her to hospital and paramedics headed to the court building where she gave birth minutes later.

The newborn, a baby girl, was then taken in the arms of one of them to a waiting ambulance.

The 25-year-old mother had travelled to the court yesterday to give support to a witness who was giving evidence in a trial.

I saw two ambulances outside the court building. There were paramedics rushing up the stairs.

One of the paramedics later came out with a newborn in his arms wrapped in a blanket with an oxygen mask over its face.
