Three people have been injured in a four-vehicle crash on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire this morning.
The crash happened shortly after 8am on the southbound carriageway, near Leicester Forest East services.
Police are warning motorists to avoid the area as the road is closed at junction 21A for Kirby Muxloe, and is likely to stay closed until midday at the earliest.
Diversions are in place.
Speaking from the scene, Det Cons Paul Bingham asked for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to call 101.
It is anticipated that junction 21A of the southbound carriageway will remain closed for some time.
Diversions are in place but we would ask anyone intending to travel in this direction to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.
We thank those motorists who are unfortunately caught up in the incident for their patience whilst emergency services deal with the collision.
