Officers investigating a distraction burglary in Chesterfield in February this year have charged a 24-year-old man.

Thomas Sykes from Easton Lane in Chippenham was charged with burglary on Friday and appeared before magistrates at Chesterfield Justice Centre the next day.

He is due to appear again at Derby Crown Court on 3 June.

The burglary happened on February 15 when a man entered the home of a 73-year-old woman and, after speaking to her for about 10 minutes, snatched her bag.

The burglary was publicised nationwide by the release of CCTV footage taken in the house.

The case against Rudi Sykes, 24, from Calne in Wiltshire, who had earlier been charged with the offence, has been discontinued.
