Vigil for victims of Grenfell Tower fire

Leicester Clock Tower Credit: PA

A remembrance vigil for the victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster will take place in Leicester city centre today (19 June).

The vigil has been organised by Leicester Council of Faiths and is due to begin at 6pm at the Clock Tower. A minutes silence will be held and white balloons will be released in memory of those who died in the fire.

In a statement of Facebook, the Federation of Muslim Organisations Leicestershire shared their support for the event:

We are sure that many in Leicester feel the grief of the families and friends of the victims.

London is a very diverse city, like Leicester, and it is at these times of difficulty that we should continue to show our love and support and solidarity.

We also recognise the work of the emergency and fire service in responding to the tragedy whilst facing danger.
