Jerseyman takes on 110 miles five island challenge

Photo:

Five islands, three days and 110 miles.

That is the challenge Jerseyman Neil Walker is taking on this weekend.

I've been preparing for quite a few months. I'm hoping the weather holds off. I don't want it too hot, but don't want it pouring down with rain either, so the weather forecast looks like it's going to be ok, so raring to go!

Neil planned the run as a personal challenge, but since the earthquake and aftershock in Nepal he is doing it to raise money for the Charity Action Nepal. It works in the remote mountainous areas of Nepal, which for the most part wont have even been reached yet by aid. The people living there will need significant help over the coming weeks and months to begin to rebuild their lives in what was already one of the poorest countries in the world.

Neil was hoping to raise £1,100, but has already topped that target.

He can be sponsored, here.

The 31-year-old Head of Finance at a store says his effort is small compared to what people are going through in Nepal.

I think the toughest bit will be the second day getting up and running around the 37 miles of Guernsey, particularly the cliff paths because after running around Jersey the day before, I'll probably be a bit sore. Alderney, Sark and Herm are a bit smaller and I've got a bit of break between them.

How the miles are broken down:

  • 48 miles around Jersey on Saturday
  • 37 miles around Guernsey on Sunday
  • 4 miles around Herm on Monday
  • 10 miles around Sark on Monday
  • 11 miles around Alderney on Monday
