The minimum wage paid to islanders in Jersey is being reviewed.

The Employment Forum is considering what the hourly rate should be set at from next April (2016).

£6.78
Current minimum wage per hour.

For the next two months, the Employment Forum will speak to representatives from employers and employees, to help it come to a decision.

It will consider these responses, along with the latest statistics and economic advice, and will make a recommendation to the Minister for Social Security.

The Minister will consider these recommendations, and then propose any changes to the minimum wage, that are considered necessary.

As always, it is important that we hear from employers who pay the minimum wage as well as minimum wage earners. We are also asking businesses what circumstances might allow them to tolerate bigger or quicker minimum wage increases in the future.

The Forum is an independent body that plays an important role trying to find a balance that is right for Jersey. We base this on consultation with stakeholders, the latest statistics, as well as advice about the local economy.”
