New proposals revealed today could see the States of Guernsey's ten departments reduced to six committees.
It's argued this could reduce the States' salary bill by around one million pounds per Parliament.
Deputy Mike O'Hara's department, Culture and Leisure, could be merged with the Education Department.
He says the review is important, and a merger could be appropriate, as long as the level of service provided isn't compromised, and the government remains democratically accountable:
He says reducing the number of departments from ten to eight could have been more appropriate than dropping it down to six.
But he says he's "not precious" about standing to lose his own position, as long as the service provided by merged departments is not "diluted".
