Photo:

Thousands of islanders in Guernsey are having their picture taken for a special exhibition about twenty-first century island life.

The project, called 'Guernsey Faces', is focusing on States Housing communities and the people that live within them.

Its the brainchild of Photography Festival organiser Jean-Christophe Godet, who realised there was a lack of pictures of islanders living on the estates in Guernsey's archive.

There were no representations whatsoever of housing estate communities and in digging even further we realised that was a really big gap because we discovered there are over 60 different housing estates in Guernsey. We don't see them very often, it's like they're hidden away. But those communities exist, they're part of our community and part of our culture as well.

Jason Wilde has now been given the job of taking photographs over the next nine months and is looking for subjects of all ages, including men and wome.

The narrative has become very negative. So I, because I come from an estate and I live on an estate, try and redress the balance, try and tell my story, about where I live, and bring my people into the mix. That's why I'm here because of my interest in this kind of culture.
