Jersey given National Park status

Jersey has been awarded National Park status.

It is hoped the status will go some way to helping look after the island’s natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage.

Formerly, aspects of the island were protected under the 'Jersey Coastal National Park' banner.

Aims of a National Park are to encourage;

  • public appreciation
  • public understanding
  • public enjoyment of natural surroundings

There are also hopes that the profile of a National Park can be used as a selling point to help boost Jersey’s tourism industry.

Despite its modest size, the quality and diversity of Jersey’s coast and countryside clearly demonstrate the significance of such truly deserved National Park status.

– Environment Minister, Deputy Steve Luce

There will be an official, invitation only, launch event on May 3rd.
