Jersey Football Marathon raises more than £25,000

160 local footballers took part in the 5th Annual Jersey Football Marathon on Saturday, playing 12 hours of near-continuous 6-a-side football.

It was the most successful edition to date, raising £25,712, that more than doubles the amount raised last year.

All the money will go towards Tackle Africa, a HIV / AIDS awareness and education charity who operate in sub-saharan Africa. They use football coaching to educate young Africans about sexual health, relationships and HIV.

Playing for 12 hours continuously took a toll on many players

All together the 16 teams played a total of 288 twenty minute matches and 699 goals were scored.

Charlie Gamble, one of the organisers, explains what the day is all about:

I'm staggered by the amount we've raised.

The event went without a hitch and I'm truly blown away by the money we've raised.

The team captains and all the players really did themselves proud, this was the biggets and the best event yet in Jersey and I'm so excited just thinking about 2017 already.
