Anger over denial of hospital funding review

A scrutiny panel in Jersey say they're angry at the government for denying a review into the funding of the island's new hospital.

A £400 million bond has been proposed to pay for the construction.

But the panel says there are alternative funding methods which should be considered, before the issue is debated in the States on 17th January.

The review would also have looked at the use of the Strategic Reserve to fund the hospital.

This is the largest amount of debt the States of Jersey has ever taken on, and a delay to the debate of four-weeks seemed entirely reasonable, given the circumstances.

We had advisors lined up who could have reported by 14th February, however the Minister has refused Scrutiny the time to do its job.

I will be making a statement in the States Assembly on this matter next week.
