Dated workplace legislation could be putting Jersey employees at risk

Deputy Montfort Tadier wants new laws introduced Photo:

There are fears that dated Jersey laws could be putting islanders at risk at work.

Deputy Montfort Tadier is asking the Social Security Minister to consider introducing maximum work time legislation to combat the issue.

He says the island does not have the same safeguards that other countries have, which could affect an employee's entitlement to breaks or the guaranteed time between shifts.

While the St Brelade Deputy thinks many employers already work to best practice, he is particularly concerned about staff in certain industries, such as care professionals.
