Today marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Week.
ITV Channel TV are tonight shining the spotlight on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, commonly known as PTSD.
Alan Ley from Jersey has been living with the condition for more than three decades.
He enlisted into the army the day before his 18th birthday and at just 19 he saw his best friend killed.
Shortly after Alan was admitted to hospital. It was then doctors told him he was suffering with what's now known as PTSD.
Alan's reliance on alcohol became all-consuming, eventually leading to the breakdown of his marriage.
He lost contact with his children and became homeless.
