A public vote could decide who becomes the island's next Chief Minister.

Deputy Russell Labey has proposed the idea, saying a ballot for the top job in Jersey's government would help engage islanders in politics.

He also says it would be a "giant leap for democracy."

The St Helier Deputy is calling for the public poll to take place soon after the island's General Election in May 2018.
