Sark's only dairy closing down

Sark’s only dairy is closing down after 30 years of business.

Its owner says the lack of farming subsidies means he is unable to continue and will stop supplying businesses next month.

Islanders have told ITV News it's a huge disappointment that local milk will no longer be sold in Sark.

Chris Nightingale, who runs the dairy, has thanked islanders for supporting the business.

We are very sorry in having to make the decision to stop and let down our loyal customers.

With no agricultural tenancies and no farming subsidies it has not been possible to put together a package to hand on to others.

The market on Sark has become smaller and the increasingly high fixed costs mean the returns are very small.
