Club and business owners in Guernsey are being urged to take extra care in securing their buildings over Christmas.

Their warning follows a spate of burglaries within the last week.

On Monday, the clubhouse at Rangers Football Club in St Andrews was broken into and cash was taken. Northfield (home of Guernsey's Northerners Football Club) was also targeted but nothing was stolen.

Guernsey Police have been advising sports clubs and businesses to review their security in the following ways:

  • Make it as difficult as possible for a criminal to gain entry, ensure doors and windows are secure and alarms are set
  • Charity boxes should be moved out of sight and tills left empty and open. Valuable items such as tools and machinery should also be locked away
  • Things like ladders and tools that could be used by burglars to help them gain entry should not be easily accessible
