An amendment has been lodged to establish an Advisory Panel for education in Guernsey.

If passed, the panel will include people who currently work in education, as well as the Sixth Form Centre, the College of Further Education, the Institute of Health and the GTA University Centre.

The Advisory Panel will be asked to help design an "appropriate governance structure" for the future provision of education on the island.

They will also be asked to consider the advantages and disadvantages of creating a Guernsey University College and return their findings to the States in March 2019.

The Committee for Education, Sport & Culture say the amendment seeks to ensure that school/college leaders and governing bodies are included in the design of the governance system, as they will be executing it on a daily basis.

The debate on the three-school model will take place next week.
