Human remains found in a burnt-out vehicle in Guernsey last week are male.
The gender has been confirmed by a UK pathologist who carried out a post-mortem examination on the remains yesterday.
DNA and other samples were also retrieved and have been sent to the UK for further forensic examination.
Guernsey Police hope the results will confirm whether or not the remains are Mikus Alps - the owner of the car who has been missing since last Monday.
A letter handed into police, claimed to be from Mr Alps, has also been sent to the UK for analysis from a handwriting expert.
