Maya Le Tissier: ‘I can’t explain how proud I was'

Guernsey footballer Maya Le Tissier says it was an amazing experience to captain the England U16s last week.

Le Tissier, who plays for St Martin’s locally, led the Young Lionesses against Denmark in the first game of a Uefa Development Tournament in York, which also featured Spain and Scotland.

She is hoping to be selected for another tournament in Italy in April as England’s young players gear up for their first taste of European competition at U17 level.

To lead the girls out in our first U16 game, in the England kit, was awesome. I was so proud. I just want to represent Guernsey. I can’t really explain how proud I was. It was an amazing experience to captain your country. There’s nothing better than that.
