Jersey's government has dedicated up to £100,000 to increase the number of ferry sailings to and from Guernsey during the summer.

French ferry company Manche Iles has released a schedule, which includes 49 day trips from Jersey to Guernsey, but only seven going the other way.

The company was announced as the States' preferred operator to run the inter-island service earlier this month.

Jersey's Economic Development Minister says he will be negotiating with Manche Iles to enhance the timetable and his department is willing to pay up to £100,000 to subsidise the service.

It is important that we utilise any subsidy available in the inaugural year to ensure we have the best service logistically possible.

I very much hope that islanders and visitors alike will really get behind this and support the new service to ensure its viability and longer term success.

I expect the final timetables to be published shortly.
