Landlords banned from discriminating against families with children

Landlords in Jersey will be banned from discriminating against families with children, following a vote by politicians.

The proposals were put forward by Deputy Montfort Tadier last month and were supported by politicians at the latest States assembly.

Deputy Tadier of Reform Jersey argued property owners have a "social responsibility" not to refuse tenants based on the fact they have children.

The Minister for Housing, Deputy Anne Pryke, along with the Minister for Home Affairs, Deputy Kristina Moore, will now look into drawing up new legislation, which will ban discrimination against prospective tenants who have children below 18 years of age.
