Police in Jersey are asking islanders to respect each other and behave responsibly as the World Cup gets underway today in Russia.
Hosts Russia will play Saudi Arabia at 4pm in the first match of the tournament.
Flares and fireworks have been included in previous island celebrations and police want people to be aware of the dangers.
Islanders can expect to see a greater police presence as the tournament progresses.
Inspector Andy Bisson says although it is a time for celebration, people need to strike the right balance and make sure they are not disturbing neighbourhoods or acting in a disorderly manner.
