Jersey's new Battle of Flowers Ambassador has been announced after the carnival ended the long tradition of the Miss Battle contest.

Arcadia Mellissa Lockhart will be the new Ambassador and will lead both the Day and Moonlight parades in August.

The 23 year old from St Helier came up against four other finalists to be chosen to represent the festival this year.

“I am overwhelmed to have won and given the opportunity of representing the Jersey Battle of Flowers 2018 and my island.”

Alongside her is 10 year old, Tobias Hosking who will be the Junior Ambassador.

He has said he's "gobsmacked to have won."

The youngster who attends Trinity School was up against 14 other children to be chosen.

Event organisers made the decision in April to end the long tradition of the Miss Battle contest after public feedback called for it to be more 'inclusive'.

The festival begins on the 9th August until the 10th August.
