Jersey's first ever Fête du Jèrriais was launched in St Helier this morning.

The week long event is a celebration of Jersey's native language and aims to raise it's profile on the island.

It was organised by Jèrriais Teaching Team alongside L'Office du Jèrriais.

It is the first time the festival has taken place but organisers say they hope it will become an annual event.

Over the week, islanders can get involved with events including story and poetry readings, scavenger hunts and a gig from local Jèrriais band, Badlabecques.

The festival will end with the launch of a Jèrriais translation of Michael Rosen's classic children's book, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' in conjunction with Jersey Festival of Words.

The full programme can be found on the Office du Jèrriais website.
