Old £1 coins go out of circulation this weekend

Islanders are being reminded that their old fashioned pound coins will go out of circulation this weekend.

Sunday is the last day people will be able to use them, after that they are no longer legal tender.

They were replaced by the new 12-sided pound coin in March, which resembles the old threepenny bit and boasts new high-tech security features to thwart counterfeiters.

Guernsey and Jersey one pound notes will continue to be issued alongside the circulation of the new UK one pound coins locally.
