Stokes leads Sarnians to opening victory

Matt Stokes scored an unbeaten 82 as Guernsey Sarnians CC began their second season in the Sussex Premier Cricket League with a win.

The opening bat was there at the end as Guernsey chased 182 to beat Worthing CC by 8 wickets with almost ten overs to spare.

Dave Hooper made 38 as the Greens put on 121 for the first wicket, while wicketkeeper Jason Martin finished 28*, seeing his side home with a six.

Earlier Stokes, Matt Breban, and Tom Nightingale each took wickets, and Josh Butler and Max Ellis one apiece, as the home side finished their 45 overs nine down after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Sarnians’ next match is at Billingshurst CC on Sunday 28 May.
