Barrow baby death inquest
A senior doctor and hospital executive have given evidence at an inquest into the death of a day old baby at Barrow's maternity unit.
Amelia Bower suffered brain damage after being starved of oxygen last April at the troubled unit, which is currently the subject of a police investigation.
The inquest heard how a midwife felt Amelia should have been transferred to a specialist hospital, but a consultant paediatrician disagreed.
It also heard how one paediatrician was unaware that a blood sample revealed Amelia was starved of oxygen. A doctor told the inquest if he was aware of the blood sample he would have transferred her to a specialist centre which may have saved her life.
The hospital's Head of Midwifery said they now have additional midwives on shift at the unit following Amelia's death.
