Families want screening for spinal muscular atrophy gene

Ashley Derricott reports on the families appealing for all pregnant women to have the chance to be screened for a rogue gene which has struck them with tragic consequences.

The gene can cause an aggressive muscle-wasting condition called SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) Type 1 - which affects babies and usually leads to death within a matter of weeks or months.
