The Preston Guild opens today after months of preparation and a year of celebration.
It will see hundreds of cultural, civic, music, dance, comedy and sporting events which will take place across the city.
Two city parks will be transformed during the main Guild City festival from 31 August to 9 September.
The unique ten-day festival is the peak of a year-long celebration which takes place every 20 years and boasts a history dating back 800 years, to the days of Henry II in 1179.
Following the theme 'Looking back to look forward', the Guild, which is the only one of its kind still celebrated in the UK, will celebrate history and tradition whilst looking to the future.
