An inquest has heard a soldier from Runcorn was threatening to kill himself shortly before he was found dead at an army base in Afghanistan.
Signaller Ian Sartorius-Jones, 21, was found by colleagues at Forward Operating Base Khar Nikar in Helmand province in January.The coroner heard the he had been having marital problems in the months before his death.
His widow Kellyanne, the mother of their young son, told the court how during a phone call he had threatened to kill himself.
"By the end of the call he had stopped crying and we were speakingnormal again", she said. "Then I put the phone down."Friend Lance Bombardier Evans said he overheard someone in the basesay "Enjoy your life". Five or ten minutes later he heard a gunshot.
